Buffer and separate fragile objects with sheets, blankets, pillows and towels. Fill in empty spaces to minimize movement during transit. Always mark the boxes containing fragile items. How much are you supposed to tip movers? An honest day's job should not go unnoticed. The average tip for local moves is 7-12% of the total bill. The average tip for long distance moves is $3-5 per hour based on the labor. It is best that you compensate each mover separately to acknowledge the hard work by everyone involved in the relocation. The professional inspector that you hire will evaluate the foundations, roofing, ventilation, insulation, plumbing and electrical systems, heating, pest situation (termites), ceilings, floors, septic tanks, and toxic materials. The inspector is not responsible for latent defects, meaning anything that can't be seen by the eye. However, the seller is required to disclose all known defects. Cats tend to become more attached to their environment rather than to people. As you settle into your new home, spend some more time with your cat. Sit down with it and provide your cat with a comfortable living space. Keep it in and around the house for as long as it takes them to become acclimated. Limit the cats' explorations to just the new house and then gradually accompany it on tours outside. Confining the cat may seem a bit cruel, but cats are more likely to run back to the old house, no matter the distance. This process could last up to a month before the cat becomes completely familiar with the new house, the scents, and noises it makes on the new carpet and floors.
